In 2024 the workshop ‘Connecting Biodiversity 2.0’ brought together key stakeholders to jointly discuss and further the Seven key principles for a bird-friendly electricity grid in Europe endorsed in June 2024 by 24 civil society signatories across 18 countries.
Over 50 participants attended the 2024’s workshop, representing civil society, transmission and distribution system operators (TSOs and DSOs), and European and national authorities from 17 countries. Discussions underscored persistent and common challenges, such as fragmented national approaches, insufficient funding for civil society, and limited awareness of effective technical solutions. Importantly, participants proposed concrete next steps to address these barriers.
